COVID RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES

Here are some resources and strategies that may help your student do their best the rest of the year:

  • Actively monitor student grades and assignment completion using a Parent ProgressBook Account. For information on usernames, passwords or setting up your account, contact: steve.lenhart@gocruisers.org

  • If you have difficulties with Internet or WiFi, maybe a HotSpot from the district could help. Contact our technology department for assistance: tech_dept@gocruisers.org or call 614-836-4789. Contact the technology department for chromebook issues as well.  They can work with you for technical support, repairs, and replacements.

  • It is important that both you and your student make contact with the teacher of each current course. All teacher emails follow this format: firstname.lastname@gocruisers.org. It is critical that you have a clear understanding of what will be required in order to pass the current courses and earn the credits.

  • For tutoring or homework help, Columbus City Schools is partnering with several community organizations on Learning Extension Centers - safe, adult-supervised, welcoming spaces where students are supported while learning virtually.  For more information and locations go to  https://www.ccsoh.us/Page/8685

Good habits can help students do better in school. Help them establish as many of the following as possible:

  • Set and maintain a good sleep schedule that allows students to get enough sleep every night.

  • Encourage or help the student create study groups with their friends and peers for more support and collaboration.

  • Set up a specific place dedicated to doing school work in an area of limited distractions. It is best if this area is not also used for free time, games, sleep or other activities not related to school work.

  • Create a daily time schedule that mimics the school day.  Set alarms that signal when class periods start and end.   Students should  be attending  classes from 7:30am - 2:10pm to get the most support.

  • Use the calendar feature in the student’s email as an agenda to keep track of due dates and manage time for classes, homework, projects and other daily activities.

  • Every day, students should check ProgressBook, their school email, Google classroom, and complete the daily attendance form.

  • Build breaks into the school day.  Get up and move around between classes.

  • Practice healthy eating habits, and make time every day for exercise and/or physical activity.
